Emissions light on and car wont start
Question:
Went down to the shops this morning, car started and drove fine. When i came back to the car to drive home, it started then died pretty much straight away and the emissions light came on.
If i try to start it now, the starter motor is working but there’s no life in the engine at all. Another strange thing is that none of my dash lights are coming on except for the emissions light and the seat belt warning (which is on a timer). Normally as soon as the key gets to ‘on’ the dash lights up like a christmas tree but not now.
I tried to read the codes using the brake and accelerator method but seeing as the engine light isnt coming on at all i cant read the codes.
Answer:
Firstly, i would try the battery disconnect method. See if it makes a difference.
Re-check the main fuses under the hood, when you say the car turns over but won’t start is it cranking over at normal speed? It sounds to me like either power (hopefully) or Immobiliser or ECU. Do you have an aftermarket alarm fitted?
Maybe someone else knows if an emission sensor would shut down the ECU to prevent possible pollution issues? You know how anal all this subject is these days.
